Meet Our Founder: Joe Watson

Joe Watson, owner and manager of Joe’s General Auto, has had a passion for mechanics since his early years. Starting his journey as a teenager working in his parents’ garage, Joe developed a love for taking things apart and putting them back together. His father’s involvement in stock car racing opened up a unique opportunity, allowing Joe to join a pit crew and maintain race cars as a teenager. This early experience set the stage for a career in automotive repair.

After years of working on everything from cars to boats and go-karts, Joe sought formal training at a technical college to advance his skills. He then opened the original Joe’s General Auto in Lakeville, MN, working in a single-bay shop. Always eager to grow his expertise, Joe went on to learn from local master mechanics, gaining experience with American, European, and Asian vehicles. In 2018, Joe’s General Auto found its current home in Shakopee, where Joe and his team continue to provide trusted service, guided by principles of integrity and craftsmanship.

Meet Our Lead Technician: John Gill

John Gill, our lead technician, brings a lifetime of experience to Joe’s General Auto. Growing up on a farm, John began learning vehicle repair at a young age, completing his first solo repair at just nine years old and his first engine rebuild at thirteen. His passion for machinery led him through technical school and a diverse career working on everything from diesel trucks to small engines. Today, John is a key part of our team, sharing his expertise and dedication with every customer he serves.
